Across our continent, and to the world!

Over time, our designs have travelled from where we meet, to the rest of the African continent - and around the world! Of course, it’s not just about a cool grid or merch, nor how incredible a sea of fellows merched-up look together - it’s about the sense of community and seeing a movement we hold dear continue to grow.

Together, we are advocating for the Africa we call home, a future where our agency is recognised in the nature, environment and wildlife storytelling space, and as a diverse and inclusive multi-generational movement using storytelling, community-inclusive science and innovative technology to disrupt and dismantle the limited narratives about Africa that have held our light under a bowl.

To break the echo chamber and bring our signature kaleidoscope of colour into the furthest corners of the industry, we started peeling away at layers and layers of research, references and techniques.

Geography, space and place matter in how we experience the world around us and the depth of stories it holds - this design denotes a belief that borders only serve as geographic touch points where our cultures meld together in fascinating ways that are seldom known - among us and more so the world. The story we tell here is that NEWF is a community that encourages new touch points.

Where a Northern local who is Moroccan or Tunisian can sit alongside a local Tanzanian or Mozambican with room enough in between to exchange knowledge, culture, language - and break bread together as equals who share a commitment to reimagining African Storytelling through collaboration practices.

As we developed the design, we imagined NEWF fellows paying closer attention to the interesting shape of a country lesser known to them or excitedly recognising the shape of their home country in the background of any of our designs and showing it to a peer.

If we had new neighbours, how would we represent our African identities?

How would our advocacy, documentaries and visual stories diversify to connect with Africa and the world?

How much more robust would our momentum, resources, scientific methodologies and cultural preservation be?

This brand story represents an Africa inspired and reimagined by the NEWF community. The featured pattern was designed by NEWF’s in-house graphic designer Cimera Naidoo.
