| WHAT IS A CINEMATOGRAPHY LAB? |
Cinematography Labs are an opportunity to advance topside and underwater natural history cinematography skills in addition to camera equipment specialisation based on the career path of each fellow such as drones, RED, Canon and Sony for career filmmakers and DSLR/Mirrorless for scientists interested in using the medium of film for science communication

Have you always wanted to film wildlife? This lab offers you the opportunity to sharpen your skills or pivot to natural history and wildlife with a hands-on approach to learning industry-standard equipment, gear checks, production-specific logistics and the basic production skills required to succeed in the field.
Cinematography Labs will take place in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. All flights, local ground transfers in South Africa, Accommodation and Meals will be covered by NEWF.

// Central Africa Lab will take place between 9th - 15th September 2024 excluding travel.
// Lab for Pan African Female identifying individuals will take place between 25th - 31st October 2024 excluding travel.
Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for an interview.
Selected participants will be notified of the final schedule.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
// CENTRAL AFRICA CALLOUT: Applicants must be above 18 years of age and a citizen of a Central African country or island (as defined by the United Nations): Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, The Congo Republic - Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and São Tomé & Principe, preferably residing on the continent.
// PAN AFRICAN FEMALE ONLY CALLOUT: Open to female identifying applicants over 18 years of age, of ANY African nationality and preferably residing on the continent.
// Applicants must be available to travel to South Africa for a minimum period of 7 days excluding travel as per each Labs scheduled dates.
// Applicants need to have at least 4 - 5 years experience and a minimum experience level of working on mirrorless and DSLR cameras and be focused on a career as a cinematographer.
// Applicants must have basic editing skills in order to cut a reel during the Lab
// Applicants are required to cover the costs of obtaining their own visas to South Africa, and home-country transport, i.e. travel to the airport and back.
