NEWF LABS extends a call for entries for 8 young individuals to attend a six day Beginners Underwater Filmmaking LAB at Sodwana Bay in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, KwaZulu-Natal from MARCH, 3rd – 9th 2019.

 

Produced by NEWF in partnership with RAID South Africa and Adventure Mania, participants will travel to Sodwana Bay and participate in obtaining a certified open water dive license whilst learning about the basics of underwater filmmaking from award winning filmmakers Grant Brokensha and Candice Odgers of The Bigger Picture Films.

 

All costs related to the workshop (incl. travel to Durban) will be covered by NEWF with the support of EDTEA, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, RAID South Africa and Adventure Mania.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Applications from young filmmakers, science communicators with an interest and passion for the protection of our natural world from all over South Africa will be considered. Applications from other African countries will also be considered but only accepted subject to the provision that we are able to obtain additional funding to cover the costs of return flights and that all legal travel documentation requirements are met.

 

Preference will be given but not exclusively to women and individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

- Young filmmakers 18 to 30 years old

- Student filmmakers and creative science communicators may also apply

- Be water safe including being able to swim

- Be fit and healthy

 

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

 

- South African ID copy or African Passport

- Short personal biography detailing your work experience, if any

- Tertiary qualifications, or current year of study and institute

- Maximum 1 page motivation detailing why we should consider you for this workshop

- Completed RAID Dive online Medical Questionnaire Statement and, if required provide a Medical Clearance from your physician.

 

Applications close midnight WEDNESDAY, 20th of February 2019.

Only successful qualifying applicants will be contacted and informed by Friday 23nd of February 2019.
